Exciting news and sneek peaks at the new album with Jon Jenkins... 2006-04-09
David's score for Tony Elwood's brilliant Dramatic Thriller Cold Storage was delivered at the end of December - just days before the final mix at WestWind Media in Burbank California. Now, 3 months later David has remixed the score for a Soundtrack Release - extending some cue's and creating a new bonus track for the release. "Having only 4 short weeks put me into the mode of just playing & improvising based on the emotion of the story. At one point this wonderful music started coming out - I felt so disconnected from it - I was watching my hands on the keyboard like a spectator...a strange feeling. I listen to it now and I truly understand it - it feels purposeful and inspired - now I know that film is the place for my music." - David Helpling This is a stunning, accomplished film and David is very proud to be such a big part of it. At over an hour of music, the 31-track Score is touching, deep and truly haunting. Delicate piano work, endless reverbs, lush strings and David's murky guitar textures support the beautiful story. When the film shows it's teeth, the score howls from a place of fear and survival. Since distribution for the film is still up in the air, the Soundtrack won't go anywhere for a bit....but David has chosen to post track 31 "Understanding" here as a free download. 2006-01-01
I know it's been a very long time since my last release in late 1999. Since then I have had 3 children, a wonderful new career in music for picture and an amazing time enjoying what life has to offer. I have more ideas and inspiration than I can stand - the only thing I haven't had is time. I have great hope that a clear path will now be provided to realize the many things started...but never finished. Though a very wise man once said "nothing changes on new years day", the concept of a new year still provides a feeling of regeneration and a new start... 2005-05-03
For over 20 years, Steven Hill and Hearts Of Space have been collecting and broadcasting compilations of space and ambient music. In national broadcasts David has shared the air waves with the likes of Brian Eno and Moby and in a recent playlist titled "The Edge Of The World" (appropriately enough). Visit Hearts Of Space online and listen to these broadcasts as "HiFi" stereo streams or check your local radio listings for these late night deep art programs... 2005-04-12
With the first taste of new music since his landmark release, FLOW, Jon Jenkins reveals BEYOND CITY LIGHT, a deep and rhythmic sojourn into the sonic ether. Among other guests on this amazing record was David Helpling, an eager contributer and avid Jenkins fan. Joining Jon in the studio, David played textural guitar on several tracks and lended a bit of electronic percussion. While David is in the studio and hard at work on his new album, we wanted to share the release of this landmark work with davidhelpling.com site surfers. "Getting to work with JJ is always a treat but this record has something very special and exciting about it - from the moment I heard the first rough mix of a track, I knew he was doing something deeply personal and full of this cool kind of rhythmic energy - I was instantly enthralled." - David Helpling | ||||
